01 February 2008 / Results / PhotosMcLaren driver Lewis Hamilton was well ahead of his competitors at Circuit de Catalunya on Friday. The young Briton completed his fastest lap in 1.22.263, over half a second ahead of Renault driver Fernando Alonso. The Red Bull team raised a few eyebrows as the team introduced a radical new engine cover.
A total of eight Formula 1 teams travelled to Circuit de Catalunya, near Barcelona, for a three-day test session at the Spanish track. The Japanese Williams driver crashed head-first into the tyre barriers but was able to climb out of his car without any problems fortunately.
A wing mounting failure caused the crash. The team decided not to quit running for the day until the problem can be solved.
