Montagny enjoys Champ Car debut
05 February 2008Former Toyota test driver Franck Montagny enjoyed a three-day test at Sebring with the Forsythe/Pettit Racing team. The Frenchman considers a move to Champ Car and immediately showed he could fight for the championship being the fastest driver on track in two out of the three days in the US.
Franck Montagny travelled to the Sebring International Raceway for a three-day test with the Forsythe Champ Car team. Montagny, who completed his first test in Formula 1 back in 2003, surprised a few as he completed the fastest lap of the day on his first and second day of testing in Champ Car.
"Pretty good for only my second day in the car," Montagny smiled on his second day of testing in Champ Car. "We've kept to a very strict program here preparing for the future, not setting the car just to go fast at Sebring. We are using this as a true test, trying to learn about the car for the seasons, although it is difficult because I understand the track has much more grip than usual because of all the rubber from the ALMS and IRL tests earlier this week."
At the moment though Montagny has yet to secure himself a seat in Champ Car, or perhaps an other series. Speaking about his chances at Forsythe in Champ Car though he said: "It's a good team to work for. A lot of good people and a good atmosphere. I'm really enjoying working with Paul Tracy, too. From what I've seen of him on television -- especially the things he said about Sebastien Bourdais and the French -- I think I prefer the real guy instead. I'm very happy to work with him, and he's been very helpful. He's a champion, one of best guys in Champ Car and I think we can make a good team together."
