Hamilton ahead of Ferrari in Spain

Lewis Hamilton has set the fastest lap on the first day of testing at Circuit de Catalunya. The Briton completed his fastest lap in 1m22.276. With his fastest time he was only just ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and Michael Schumacher.

The Formula 1 teams continued started its final full week of testing on Monday at Circuit de Catalunya, near Barcelona. All except for Super Aguri that is. The team said in a statement on Monday morning it did not travel to Barcelona due to the ongoing negotiations to secure the team's future.

The weather wasn't at its best in Spain. The track was damp for most of the day making it difficult for the drivers to adapt to the conditions on track.

At Ferrari Michael Schumacher joined world champion Kimi Raikkonen for a day of testing with the Italian team. It was the first time Schumacher stepped into the team's F2008.

Meanwhile the Force India F1 team completed its first laps in the VJM01 with Adrian Sutil and Vitantonio Liuzzi behind the wheel of the team's 2008 contender. The team showed it made good progress this winter as it set the 11th and 13th fastest time of the day.
