Briatore: We'll fight for the podium

27 February 2008

According to Renault's F1 team boss Flavio Briatore the team should be able to fight for places on the podium in the upcoming Formula One season. In 2007 the team managed to finish on the podium just once when Heikki Kovalainen finished second in the Japanese Grand Prix.

In 2008 Renault sees its former world champion Fernando Alonso return after the Spaniard spent a year at McLaren. The Spaniard didn't feel at home and believed his team-mate Lewis Hamilton had an advantage over him within the team. At Renault things should be different. Alonso expects to work with a number one status within the team.

Team boss Briatore doesn't expect any miracles in 2008 but he does expect the team to finish on the podium several times. "Renault is back and we are confident that we will be protagonists this year and fighting for places on the podium," Briatore told The Times. "For me, Fernando is the best. He gets bad publicity in England because last year he was fighting with Lewis Hamilton, but it is always like this in England."
