Glass building collapses in Valencia pits

Glass building collapses in Valencia pits

05 March 2008

Teams testing at the Valencia circuit had a scary moment on Wednesday morning when a VIP building, set on top of the pit complex, collapsed on some of the trucks parked behind the garages. Currently, World Series by Renault teams are testing in Valencia, but after all the glass fell down on their trucks the test session was stopped and the building evacuated.

The falling glass injured a few engineers that were working behind the garages but there were fortunately no major injuries.

Former Formula One test driver Giedo van der Garde is currently in Valencia for the two-day test session. He told GPUpdate.net about the incident: "All of a sudden we heared a big bang and that scared the hell out of us. When we checked out what was going on behind our pitbox we saw all the glas from that building all over the trucks. Fortunately our truck wasn't hit but there is a lot of damage to other trucks from other teams. I guess the most important thing though is that we were lucky enough that no one was seriously injured here."
