BMW Sauber driver Robert Kubica was originally terrified of being in the public spotlight after he made his F1 debut at the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix, but on the eve of the new season, the Polish racer says he's getting used to being a star.
"I might have been annoyed, but I understood why we had this problem," Kubica said. "Before I started in Formula One there was very little interest in the sport in Poland, and I am sure this would be the same in any country. Formula One is now much more popular in Poland."
Kubica has also been credited with making Formula One one of the most popular sports in Poland.
"Not only am I very happy to see the knowledge increase, but also the number of fans coming to the races, enjoying the sport and crossing their fingers for me," he added. "I also think a sign of just how popular Formula One is can be seen in the number of fans who came to see me in Warsaw in the BMW Sauber F1 Team Pit Lane Park."
