The Australian Grand Prix, his home Grand Prix, didn't bring what Webber would have hoped for. The 31-year-old faced technical problems during qualifying on Saturday, and was pushed out of Sunday's race.
Webber was able to limp back to the pits when he got hit in the opening lap at Albert Park but a broken rear track rod put pay to his afternoon of racing. "I didn't feel a thing," said Webber afterwards, "it must have been the gentlest of taps which just hit the sweet spot. I'm not altogether sure who even hit me, I think it may have been Anthony Davidson. I managed to avoid Kazuki Nakajima hitting Jenson at turn 1 by going off onto the grass to get round. But then on the run down to turn 3, he (Nakajima) came past me with no front wing and I think he and Anthony managed to boxed themselves into one another and Anthony was squeezed into me.
"It hasn't been a good Australian Grand Prix weekend for me but I'm looking forward to getting up to KL for next weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix and starting my season's campaign there."
