
BMW Sauber F1 driver Nick Heidfeld was the fastest driver on track at Sepang on Saturday morning. The German even managed to complete the fastest lap of the weekend so far, showing a promising pace for today's qualifying session. Heidfeld was followed by Ferrari drivers Raikkonen and Massa.
The Malaysian Grand Prix weekend continued on Saturday morning with temperatures already as high as 29 degrees Celius at the Sepang International Circuit. The 60-minutes free practice session was dominated by the Ferrari drivers for most of the time, until Nick Heidfeld managed to complete a flying lap in the final minutes of the session.
At McLaren the team focussed on the long runs for Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix and thus saw Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen end up as low as 11th and 16th, but nothing to worry about.
Jarno Trulli showed a promising pace. The Italian completed 20 laps this morning with a fastest time of 1,35,389, less than four tenths of a second behind on Heidfeld. Nelson Piquet also showed a good performance. The Brazilian ended seventh with his team mate Alonso in twelfth.
