Robert Kubica stormed to his, and the BMW Sauber team's maiden F1 pole position at Bahrain today, edging out a fierce challenge from Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton in the final moments of qualifying.

The first session saw Coulthard, Fisichella, Vettel, Sutil, Davidson and Sato drop out, while the two Ferraris set the early pace. Felipe Massa, however, faces scrutiny after he set his fastest lap of the first session while yellow flags were out in the final sector.

The second session saw a frantic dash to make it into the pole shoot out, but in the end Webber, Barrichello, Glock, Piquet, Bourdais and Nakajima slipped out.

Robert Kubica came to the fore in the pole shootout - setting the early pace and mixing between Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton. Massa briefly regained the initiative, but Robert Kubica pulled out a stunning final lap to take his first F1 pole position ahead of Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton.

Raikkonen ended up fourth ahead of Kovalainen and Heidfeld on the third row. Trulli, Rosberg, Button and Fernando Alonso rounded off the top ten.
