Button: crash was a racing incident

07 April 2008

Jenson Button isn't too worried about his incident with fellow Briton David Coulthard. The Honda driver crashed into the side of Red Bull Racing driver David Coulthard as they entered turn eight at the Sakhir track on Sunday. According to Button it was just a racing incident and not something any of them could prevent.

Speaking about the whole incident Jenson Button told ITV: "I was catching DC by a second a lap and then when I had a go at him in the end into turn eight. I got a massive run on him out of the high-speed chicane and he moved over to try and take his racing line then he realised I was so close and he went back. But it was too late.

"The move wasn't at the apex, the move was earlier on and the problem was he came across in front of me and I couldn't slow the car down quick enough."

In Australia Coulthard had a similar incident with Felipe Massa, but according to Button his incident with the Scotsman wasn't the same. When asked if Coulthard had to start using his mirrors Button replied: "Well I think the problem is he did look in his mirrors. It was a very different accident to the one with Felipe, because there was no gap in the end for me to overtake. The problem was when I was just about to hit the brakes there was a gap, then he moved across to block the corner and it was too late."
