Renault technical chief wants major changes

Renault technical chief wants major changes

10 April 2008

Renault technical director Bob Bell wants major changes to his team's R28 car this season, if they are to be able to close in and challenge Ferrari, McLaren and BMW by the end of this season.

"I think just needing to improve is a bit of an understatement," Bell said. "We need a tidal wave of change to move us back where we want to be, but that's what we're here to do."

"Our biggest issue is the car's aerodynamics, but there are also mechanical improvements we can make," he added.

Renault will introduce a major aerodynamics update to the cars for testing at Barcelona next week which the team is hoping will bring it a half-a-second-a-lap improvement.

"We've got some big steps to make and we need to make them in big moves," he added. "Lots of little ones are no good because we don't have the time. We need to have a very sizeable step up and make that first step in Barcelona."
