Massa keeps competition well behind

Ferrari driver Felipe Massa completed an amazing fastest lap at Circuit de Catalunya on Monday. The Brazilian completed his fastest lap with slicks in 1,18,339, almost three seconds ahead of Honda test driver Alexander Wurz and the rest of the field. Ferrari furthermore introduced a new radical front wing in Spain.

The teams got back to work on Monday at Circuit de Catalunya. Formula One's tyre supplier Bridgestone brought slick tyres for every team in order to gather data for next season when slicks are going to return in Formula 1.

The enourmous gap between Ferrari driver Felipe Massa and McLaren's test driver Pedro de la Rosa was probably caused due to the fact McLaren was already working on a new rear wing that will be used in 2009. The new rules in Formula One will see rear wings with less down force and thus less speed through corners.

The first out of a three-day test session was stopped several times with red flags as drivers such as Timo Glock, Nick Heidfeld and Kazuki Nakajima spun their car into the gravel.

Testing will continue on Tuesday.
