Fernando Alonso was back behind the wheel for Renault at the Circuit de Catalunya yesterday testing the team's major new aerodynamics update and covering the most mileage of any driver, despite a brief engine problem in the afternoon.
"The car felt good and we seemed reasonably competitive," said Alonso, who was third fastest of the drivers only running on grooved tyres, 0.4s off Ferrari's pace. "But we have to remember that a lot of the teams were running slick tyres and so we should not concentrate too much on the times.
"We are certainly improving the car and we tried out some new aerodynamic parts today which went well," he added. "We managed to do 119 laps, which is 2 race distances, and so we are quite happy, but there is more to do."
