BMW Sauber F1 driver Nick Heidfeld never expected to see the team in the position the team is after three rounds in the 2008 Formula One championship. The German driver is currently second in the drivers' championship standings while BMW Sauber F1 is leading the constructors' championship.

"We have been doing better than expected after the winter, but it could also be even better," Heidfeld said. "Of course it can always be better because we could have more points but that goes for most teams. Ferrari and McLaren didn't have a perfect start either. Even though I am second in the championship and BMW is leading I still think we could have done slightly better."
It is always difficult for a team that made a big step forward in one year, to continue making another big step the next year. At BMW though Heidfeld was never worried the team could continue to improve and close the gap with the top teams.
"At the end of winter testing I already knew we were quite good but in the media you would only read about the problems we had. We always knew we made a lot of progress, even though we might not expected to be this good."
