Renault bosses urge caution

Renault bosses urge caution

26 April 2008

Renault bosses have urged caution and played down the significance of the fact that Nelson Piquet Jr and Fernando Alonso finished a surprise second and third fastest at the end of Friday practice.

"While it is always nice to see the cars near the top of the timesheets, we have to keep in mind that it is Friday, and does not necessarily represent the complete picture," said Renault's engineering chief Pat Symonds. "However, we have moved forward with the modifications that are on the car this weekend."

His sentiment was echoed by Renault engine boss Denis Chevrier. "It's still difficult to know with certainty what our position is in the pack," he said. "We have certainly made progress, but the gaps between the teams are small and we don't know exactly which teams really attacked today and what their real potential is."
