French court won't help Mosley

30 April 2008

A French court Max Mosley hoped would help him build his case to stay on as FIA president amid the current controversy over his private life, has failed to rule in his favour saying it has no power to ban the British tabloid newspaper the News of the World from continuing to post a video of Mosley's sexual antics on its web site.

Mosley filed legal action in France where privacy laws are stronger than in the UK, where he failed in his attempts to get the video banned earlier this month. The French court did rule, however that publishing photos of Mosley's private, alleged Nazi orgy in French editions of the newspaper had to be withdrawn.

That ruling makes little difference to Mosley's case as the newspaper is not widely available in France. The FIA is set to vote on Mosley's future in just over a month's time.
