Ferrari F1 driver Felipe Massa completed Friday morning's fastest lap in Istanbul Park. The Brazilian showed he is ready to fight for a third win in a row in Turkey by setting the fastest time of the day at 1.27.323. He was just ahead of recovered McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen and his team-mate Lewis Hamilton.
The Turkish Grand Prix weekend got underway at a damp track on Friday morning. The track was slightly wet not due to any rain from last night but because the organizers in Turkey decided to clean the track at the very last minute on Friday morning. With temperatures as low as 15 degrees the track didn't dry that fast. It turned out to become a pretty boring session for the fans in Istanbul as it took at least 45 minutes to see a bit of action on track.
McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen was cleared by the FIA's medical team on Thursday and returned at his team after his heavy crash in Spain two weeks ago. The Finn showed there is nothing wrong with his pace as he completed the second fastest lap in the opening practice session at Istanbul Park.
In today's first free practice session drivers were searching for grip. Many drivers spun their cars in the 90-minute session. Drivers such as Fisichella, Nakajima, Hamilton, Massa, Trulli all spun around but did not damage their car.
F1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen completed just three laps. The Ferrari team were working hard on his car but it is still unclear what the problem is at the time of writing.
