Three stops prevented tyre problems for Hamilton

The McLaren Formula 1 team was advised by Bridgestone to stop three times to prevent a tyre failure during the race for Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton finished Sunday's Turkish Grand Prix in second position.

While most Formula One drivers stopped just two times the McLaren team had to deal with three pitstops for Lewis Hamilton. McLaren team boss Ron Dennis revealed the team discovered a concern on the tyres at Hamilton's car in practice. "We discussed it with Bridgestone and had to decide it was better to stop three times to make sure everything would remain safe," said Ron Dennis. "We did not want to have a tyre failure and even though it was possible to run two stops we put the safety of our driver in first place."
