McLaren had pace to win - Dennis

12 May 2008

McLaren team boss Ron Dennis had a smile on his face after the Turkish Grand Prix despite the fact that Ferrari won again. In fact, Dennis was most pleased that Hamilton had closed Raikkonen's championship lead by two points and that his pace was so strong throughout the race.

"To be honest, our strategy was linked to the tyre problem we had in practice and we were a bit concerned about going too long on the tyres and opted for the safer strategy of going for three stops," Dennis said.

"From there we just had to race really hard and Lewis did really well," he added. "Heikki was clipped by a Ferrari at the start and did well to recover. The most encouraging thing is our pace, we have a lot of good pace and we'll be strong in Monaco."

"We could have done better, we're competitive and we could have won," he concluded.
