FIA will lose F1 control without me - Mosley

17 May 2008

FIA president Max Mosley has ramped up his efforts to win a vital vote of confidence from the FIA member organisations by sending a letter to national club presidents warning them of the devastation that would come should he be forced from office.

One of the main thrusts of his letter was claims that the FIA could lose control of F1 if he is removed from office while he apparently renegotiates the 100-year commercial agreement the FIA had given to Bernie Ecclestone's Formula One Management. The discussions are in response to the commercial rights holder's desire to change the terms of the existing agreement.

In his letter Mosley warns that if he is forced from office, someone who sympathises with the commercial rights holder might come to power and agree to changes to the deal that he wouldn't.

In the letter Mosley covers the World Rally Championship too and his vital role in ongoing negotiations for the management of the series and closes his case by saying he intends to stand down in October 2009 when his current term ends.
