Hamilton tops second practice

Lewis Hamilton has completed the fastest lap in Monaco on Friday. The McLaren driver set his fastest lap at 1.15.140 and was four tenths of a second ahead of Nico Rosberg. Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa ended third and fourth in Friday's second free practice session. The session was red flagged for a number of minutes as Fernando Alonso lost his rear wing.

When the lights turned green for Thursday afternoon's 90-minute free practice session a number of drivers immediately entered the track to continue their preparations for Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton was the fastest in the first part of the session, only just ahead of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

After half an hour into the session Lewis Hamilton improved his fastest time to 1.15.688, clock the fastest time of the day so far. Not much later though Williams driver Nico Rosberg surprised a few when the German completed the fastest lap of the day. At the end of the session Rosberg's time was fast enough for second place as Hamilton managed to complete an even faster lap around the end of the session.

For the Formula 1 fans whom travelled to Monaco it was an interesting day of action. As traction control got banned at the start of the season many drivers are fighting their cars through the narrow streets in Monaco. As the roads in Monaco are normally open to every day traffic the track is very slippery, which makes it even more interesting to watch the drivers searching for their grip.

At Renault it was a busy day for the mechanics. Both Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet jr. made a small mistake. Both drivers had to pay the price and lost their rear wings.
