Silverstone has a contract to play host for the British Grand Prix but that contract expires at the end of 2009. According to Silverstone's development director there are still ongoing discussions with Formula One Management though and British fans do not have to worry yet.

Silverstone's development director, Spencer Canning, told the Chronicle & Echo talks are still being held with Ecclestone's Formula One Management, and work to build a new state-of-the-art pit and paddock complex at Silverstone could begin as soon as October. He said: "We do still have ongoing discussions with Formula One Management. Nobody from Formula One Management has told us anything other than we are still involved in ongoing talks and that they like the proposals we have for the new pit and paddock. We're still fully behind wanting to keep the Grand Prix and our full focus is on that."

He furthermore also didn't expect to see negotiations end very soon. "It could go all the way through to autumn next year," he said. "
