Coulthard surprised by shunt

David Coulthard was as surprised as anybody that his qualifying session ended in the final moments of Q2 with major crash into the barrier on the exit of the tunnel.

"I was going around 185kph, so it's probably the worst place to crash, but luckily I went down the escape road," said Coulthard. "When I hit the brakes the car started to turn and normally when that happens you lift off and it comes back, but it turned sharply to the right. Normally if you lock a bit initially you release a bit, and I'm surprised what happened was so violent, but we'll have to look at the data to find out exactly why."

Coulthard had made it into the top ten, and remained tenth overall as he was unable to participate in the final session.
