Lewis Hamilton claimed his victory in today's Monaco Grand Prix was the highlight of his entire life. The win takes him into the lead of the drivers' championship.

"This has got to be the highlight of my career and will be for the rest of my life," Hamilton said.

"I was able to get a good start and felt comfortable at the beginning with a good car underneath me and I knew I could challenge Felipe," he added. "As the rain came down, because you have so much spray you can't tell if it's heavier or not and at Tabac I hit a river of water coming across the track and fortunately I just had a puncture and the team did a fantastic job."

"When the weather is like this, we just had to keep the car on the track and I can't explain how difficult that was," Hamilton went on. "Fortunately the strategy worked after we had to change it and it played into our hands. The pace I had was ridiculous though, having a second on most people."

He concluded, "The safety car coming out lost my big gap, but fortunately the tyres were still good and the track was getting drier. I managed to look after them and that's what gave us the win."
