Kolles: Sutil was a hero in Monaco

27 May 2008

According to Force India team boss Colin Kolles his driver Adrian Sutil raced like a true hero in Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix. Sutil started his race from the back of the grid in 18th position but moved up to an astonishing fourth position. At a certain point Sutil even lapped McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen. With only a handful of laps to go though Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen crashed into the back of Sutil, which ended the German's race.

Looking back at Sunday's extraordinary race for the Force India team Colin Kolles told autosport.com: "I am definitely disappointed (with Sutil's DNF), but at least for Adrian and the team we showed that in equal conditions (mixed) that we can be very competitive. Unfortunately we have to improve our car, we are not (normally) at that level. But we always have races like this and it's traditional for our team that we are there."

According to Kolles the accident with Raikkonen wasn't for anyone to blame. "I don't have to blame Kimi. He did a mistake, it's a race incident and there's nothing more to say? It's unfortunate that it was Kimi, who is a friend, that it happened with him. But what can I say, that's life!"

The race ended in tears for Sutil, but Kolles believes it will boost Sutil's confidence for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix. "After the race he was in tears. But it was not only him there were a lot of people. I told him: 'You are the hero of the race'. That's my opinion and I think people will recognise this."
