After a disappointing 10th place finish in Monaco Fernando Alonso is hoping to score a few points again in the upcoming weekend as Formula 1 travels to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix. Back in 2006 the Renault driver won the race, but this weekend Alonso's main goal will be to score points for the championship standings.

"We were not able to achieve what could have been possible in normal conditions, and so it was disappointing," said Alonso looking back at the Monaco Grand Prix. "As we are not fighting for the championship, we tried to take our chances and that meant we took some risks, although they did not pay us back."
But now Alonso has all eyes on the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix. "I am looking forward to getting back in the car this weekend to see what we can achieve in Montreal, which is a very different circuit," said Alonso. "I won the Grand Prix in 2006, so I have some happy memories, and I'm sure that this year we will have another interesting race.
"We must pay special attention to brake cooling and managing them in the race will be very important. But it's not something I'm worried about, and we will work on this in free practice on Friday. Overall I think that the R28 should work well.
The former world champion is confident his team should be able to perform well in North America. Points should be the team's main target and a realistic goal. "There is no reason why we shouldn't as the team has been preparing for this race for several weeks, including a test session in Paul Ricard. We have made some progress recently and we are trying to continue moving forward as much as possible. Since the Spanish Grand Prix we seem to have been on the pace, and so should be in Canada as well, and we will do everything to try and make sure that we are."
