Massa fastest in opening practice

Ferrari driver Felipe Massa completed the fastest lap in Friday's first free practice session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. The Brazilian finished ahead of BMW's Robert Kubica and McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen.

Round seven in the 2008 Formula 1 championship got underway in Montreal on Friday at a damp track. There were several drivers who went off track for a moment but there was no damage to their cars. Williams drivers Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima were the fastest men on track in the opening stages of the 90-minute free practice session.

Jarno Trulli spun his Toyota several times and seemed to be searching for grip in the tricky conditions at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The Italian was fast though as he completed the fastest lap after one hour of free practice. In the end though the track got dry and times started to improve. At the end of the session Felipe Massa completed the fastest lap, two tenths of a second faster than Robert Kubica.
