Hamilton: I was just too late
08 June 2008 / Results / PhotosLewis Hamilton crashed out of the Canadian Grand Prix when the McLaren driver crashed into the back of Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen. Raikkonen stopped for the red lights at the end of the pitlane but Hamilton was too late hitting his brakes. A missed opportunity for the Briton as he lost the lead in the championship to Robert Kubica.

"We got into the pitstop, it wasn't a great stop and I saw the two guys in front of me and they were battling in the pit lane," Hamilton told Britain's ITV television. "I was obviously trying to make sure I didn't get involved with those guys. I saw the red light but by the time they had stopped and I had seen the red light it was a bit late," he continued.
"It's not exactly a racing incident as such but I think it's really unfortunate. It was one of those things I guess," Hamilton said. "It's a lot different if you crash into the wall and you are angry with yourself. It's not like that. I apologise to Kimi if I've ruined his race but that sort of thing happens.
"I would just rather that neither of us was out. We were so quick, I was breezing it. But next time."
