Kubica enjoys 'fantastic win'
08 June 2008 / Results / PhotosRobert Kubica made history as he scored BMW Sauber F1's first victory in Formula 1. The driver from Krakow claimed victory at the track he left by helicopter just one year ago due to a high-speed crash.
Looking back at the incident in the pitlane Kubica said: "We were all pitting together but at the end of the pitlane the red light was still on. Kimi stopped next to me and all of a sudden I heard a big shunt. I saw Raikkonen move forwards as Hamilton crashed into him. All I did was concentrating and waiting for the green light and when it turned green I got away well.
"I was behind slower cars and was unable to make any overtaking manoeuvres. After my pitstop I came out in front of Nick and pushed hard to create a big gap. I managed to create that gap and could safely go for another pitstop.
"It is just fantastic now to win the first race fro BMW Sauber - the team I have enjoyed working at since the start. We even managed to finish first and second and all in all it is just a fantastic weekend for me and for the team."
