Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer set the pace on the opening day of testing this week at Barcelona. The Italian set a best lap of 1m22.412s at the end of testing to finish 0.2s ahead of championship leader Robert Kubica.
The day was mostly dry until rain came in the final hour. While Badoer had a trouble-free day, Kubica had a small problem in the morning which stopped him on track.
David Coulthard finished the day third ahead of Buemi, also testing for Red Bull. McLaren fielded Gary Paffett who finished fifth ahead of Anthony Davidson who was back behind the wheel for Honda
Hulkenberg finished seventh for Williams, completing 112 laps, the most of anyone today and finishing ahead of Grosjean in the Renault and Kobayashi in the Toyota.
