McLaren team boss Ron Dennis insisted that Lewis Hamilton gained no advantage from cutting a chicane on the first lap just as he passed Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel. The penalty ruined any chance Hamilton had of salvaging points from the weekend.
"I think Lewis was past him - I don't think he got any road position - that's my opinion, obviously not one held by other people," Dennis said. "I think he was past. Nothing can be gained from saying anything else. We just told race control that, it was our opinion he was past before he got squeezed off the circuit."
"I don't think he gained a position from being off the road, but other people have a different opinion," he added. "We're just focussed now towards Silverstone - we have a lot of racing to do this season and have quick cars and are competitive."
