Williams: Nakajima has a long future in F1

23 June 2008

Williams F1 founder expects his driver Kazuki Nakjima to stick around in Formula 1. Williams offered Nakajima his debut in Formula 1 at the Brazilian Grand Prix last year as a replacement for Alexander Wurz.

Nakajima scored seven points so far this season, while his team mate Nico Rosberg scored eight after eight rounds in the Formula One championship. According to team boss Frank Williams Nakajima has the talent to enjoy a long career in Formula 1. Speaking to Reuters Williams said: "Kazuki is very intelligent, never panics. He has a bit to learn about his driving and he knows it. He exercises his mind about his driving and to make himself better, perhaps more than anyone I have seen for a very long time.

"He is in more on his merit than not but he's still got some way to go. There is no pressure on him, that's the best way of avoiding accidents. Rather, there is modest, sculpted pressure on him. I would think he will have a long term future in Formula One. He is clever and he does a lot of overtaking, some of which does not please the stewards... he knocked Kubica off and got a 10-place penalty, fair enough."

"He just needs time, if he were at McLaren or one of the top three you guys would say 'Kazuki, he's actually pretty good.' Because he could shine up there."
