Hamilton fastest in front of home crowd

Lewis Hamilton completed the fastest lap on the third and final day of testing at Silverstone. The Briton was impressed with the support he received from the grandstands as the test was a total sell out. Hamilton was well ahead of the others as he completed his fastest lap in 1.19.170.

Thursday was the third and final day of testing at Silverstone ahead of next week's British Grand Prix. On Thursday Hamilton took over testing duties from team mate Heikki Kovalainen. Every single ticket for the day of testing was sold and it was not difficult to see who the Britons in the grandstand were supporting. After the test Hamilton said he was impressed with the number of fans welcoming him at Silverstone.

There was one incident between Timo Glock and David Coulthard. The two drivers collided at Hangar Straight and both cars were slightly damaged. Renault driver Fernando Alonso had some technical problems but still managed to complete almost 80 laps.
