Fernando Alonso ended the third and final free practice session on top of the time sheets. The Renault driver completed his flying lap as the flag fell for the end of the session. At the drying track times dropped rapidly throughout the session.

The third and final free practice session got under way at 10.00 am at Silverstone at a wet track. Rain fell early this morning but stopped around 8.00 am. The drivers all completed their installation runs in the opening minutes on extreme wets but not much later they switched to Bridgestone's intermediates. While most drivers completed at least a number of laps in the wet the Ferrari drivers Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen remained in their pitboxes.

David Coulthard completed only a few laps. His car was in the pitbox for most of the time as his team worked on what looked like a technical problem at the back of the car.

As the session continued the track dried rapidly and times were dropping quick. Many drivers led the session for a moment but at the end of the session it was Fernando Alonso who topped the time sheets.

There is not much that could be learned from this session as the session took part at a drying track. It will be an interesting qualifying session this afternoon.
