Dennis: Kovalainen's pole well deserved

06 July 2008

Ron Dennis was a happy man after Saturday's qualifying session. In front of the British fans Dennis saw his driver Heikki Kovalainen score his first pole position in Formula 1. Kovalainen joined Lewis Hamilton at the McLaren team at the start of the season

Speaking about Kovalainen's qualifying performance on Saturday Ron Dennis said: "Heikki showed great determination and a lot of skill to master the gusty, tricky conditions so well. The result was his first pole position in Formula 1 - and it was thoroughly well deserved because he's been driving beautifully all weekend.

Speaking about his team mate Lewis Hamilton Ron Dennis said: "Lewis made a small mistake in sector three, and his P4 grid position doesn't therefore reflect his latent pace, but he remains confident that he can put in a strong performance tomorrow. Overall, then, we feel we're in a good position and are looking forward to doing very well at McLaren's home race tomorrow."
