Lewis Hamilton stayed at the top of the timesheets on the second day of testing this week at Hockenheim, in preparation for next week's German Grand Prix. The McLaren driver went over half a second faster than he did yesterday.

Running his McLaren without its new shark-fin engine cover Hamilton finished 0.4s ahead of Nico Rosberg and Kimi Raikkonen.

Retiring Red Bull driver David Coulthard finished fourth as Red Bull continued to show good pace and Adrian Sutil gave Force India something to be happy about in fifth. He did however, stop on track early in the morning.

Vettel and Glock finished sixth and seventh ahead of Fernando Alonso and Rubens Barrichello who both stopped on track during the day.

Webber, Heidfeld and Bourdais rounded off the field. Testing concludes at the circuit tomorrow.
