Red Bull F1 factory evacuated after fire alarm

16 July 2008

The Red Bull Formula 1 factory in Milton Keynes, England, was evacuated after a brand-new racing component went up in smoke. The smoke alarm went of around lunch time on Wednesday following a chemical reaction in an enclosed room.

Red Bull Racing staff were evacuated from the facility including F1 driver Mark Webber.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus, a hose reel and a dry powder extinguisher to make the component safe.

A spokesman for Red Bull Racing explained: "While carrying out some testing on development items for the future an electrical development component failed and gave off a lot of smoke. This set off the smoke detectors and fire alarms.

"In accordance with drills practised regularly at the factory, Building 1 was evacuated. The incident has absolutely no effect on preparation for this weekend's German GP."
