Heikki Kovalainen has claimed his first ever victory in Formula One at the Hungaroring on Sunday. The McLaren driver will have to thank Felipe Massa for blowing up his engine and Lewis Hamilton who suffered a tyre puncture. Timo Glock completed an incredible race and finished second, his first podium in F1, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen.

The Hungarian Grand Prix looked liked it would be Lewis Hamilton's race again. The Briton started the race from pole position after having dominated for most of the weekend. At the start though both Hamilton and team mate Kovalainen were surprised by Felipe Massa who came from third but exited the first corner leading the race.

Felipe Massa was not able to pull a major gap out over Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton managed to stick close to Massa but the duo soon pulled a gap on the rest of the field. After the first pitstops it looked like it was going to be an easy race for both Massa and Hamilton cruising to a podium. There would soon be a wake up call though for Hamilton as he suffered from a tyre puncture and slowly had to drive back to the pitlane for a fresh set of tyres. Hamilton had to settle in the end for a fifth position.

As Hamilton's tyre failed on him the race looked like it was going to be Massa's. The Brazilian though would have never expected his Ferrari would gave up on him with just three laps to go. While driving out of the final corner the F2008's engine blew up and Massa had to stop his car on the straight. No victory, no podium, no points for him. He left his car extremely disappointed.

In themean time Timo Glock moved up to P2 while Heikki Kovalainen was leading the race. The McLaren driver would take his first ever victory in Formula 1 while Timo Glock scored his first podium finish with a well deserved second place. Kimi Raikkonen settled for third and with six extra points the Finn moves up to the second position in the championship standings.

Formula 1 will now take a three-week break before it will head for Spain to race through the streets of Valencia.
