Raikkonen leads Alonso in second practice

Reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen showed a sign of his intent this afternoon as he set the pace in second practice at the new Valencia street circuit in Spain. He finished just 0.020s ahead of local hero Fernando Alonso.

Alonso looked to have the session sewn up, until Raikkonen put in a flyer right at the end of the 90 minutes. Jenson Button took a surprise third place for Honda, having switched to soft tyres right at the end of the session. Morning pace setter Felipe Massa was fourth ahead of Lewis Hamilton and McLaren team mate Heikki Kovalainen.

Timo Glock continued his impressive run to end up seventh ahead of Kubica, Piquet and Fisichella getting his Force India into the top ten.

Most drivers had some scary moments while exploring the limits of the track, many going off at turn two, but recovering thanks to the accomodating run-off area.
