Vettel sets early pace at Valencia

22 August 2008

Scuderia Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel was the surprise pace setter at the end of first practice on the all new Valencia street circuit in Spain. Felipe Massa ended the session second, 0.158s off the pace with Lewis Hamilton third.

Practice got underway in warm and sunny conditions and lap times tumbled throughout the 90-minute session as drivers covered their very first laps on the new circuit. A number of drivers has hairy moments as they explored the limits with Lewis Hamilton and Nelson Piquet both going off at the hairpin but recovering without any damage.

Sebastien Bourdais rounded off a great session for Toro Rosso with fourth ahead of Kovalainen, Kubica, Raikkonen and Nakajima. Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg rounded off the top ten.
