Fernando Alonso holds the key to this year's driver market, according to Honda team principal Ross Brawn.
Typically by this stage in the year the 'silly season' of driver negotiations, moves and rumours is in full swing. However, with Alonso waiting to decide whether to stay at Renault, or whether (if rumours be true) there are opportunities he might prefer at Honda, or even Ferrari.
"When Fernando makes a decision, a lot of other things will fall into place," said Brawn, who has made no secret of his attempts to lure Alonso to Honda. "His option at Renault depended on results which were not achieved - everyone knows that."
Brawn added that he would not be making any announcement about his driver line up for 2009, adding further fuel to the speculation that he is set on Alonso. He added that he believes it unlikely Alonso can go to Ferrari in 2009 because he doesn't see Kimi Raikkonen retiring.
