Felipe Massa was delighted to set the record straight with victory and fight back from his Hungarian Grand Prix disappointment with a win at Valencia. However, with his win at risk from a stewards' investigation, for an unsafe release in the pit lane, Massa was under no illusion that the car he almost hit - Adrian Sutil's Force India - should have backed off.
"It's an amazing race," Massa said. "After such a bad result in Hungary, we come to a new track for everyone and did a fantastic job. We prepared the car well on Friday and Saturday morning and chose the right tyres, which I think was pretty difficult, especially in qualifying but I think we did a perfect job on that to make pole position and won the race which is more than I could ask for."
"The start was just great and I've been doing great starts all season," he added. "The first stint was very good and I saw Lewis fighting, but I was pulling away a couple of tenths every lap. We won the race in the second stint as the car was perfect and the gap was just increasing."
On the second pit stop, for which he is under investigation, Massa said, "I think it wasn't very clever from Adrian's side, he needs to let me by as he saw me coming, and I had to back off and lost a lot of time. I stopped behind him and we left together, we were side by side and I was the leader and he was lapped, it was quite narrow there and I decided not to take any risk so I backed off."
