McLaren Electronic Systems, the specialist electronics arm of British Formula 1 racing and automotive company McLaren, has announced the launch of a new North American subsidiary: McLaren Electronics Inc.
McLaren's UK-based electronics arm already has a firm foothold in the USA: it provides mechanical components for all three NASCAR championships (the Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Craftsman Truck Series), electronics and software for the Indy Racing League and track support systems for the American Le Mans sportscar series.
Situated in Mooresville, North Carolina - close to Charlotte, the heartland of the NASCAR stockcar racing community - McLaren Electronics Inc will enable the company to offer increased support to its existing customers while also improving and extending its North American infrastructure.
The company's president will be Mike Phillips - the former managing director of the Group's Applied Technologies arm. He said: "I am looking forward to starting this fresh chapter in McLaren's history. Having met some of the teams in North America, it's clear that we can provide them with a much better and more complete service by having a facility based in North Carolina."
