Kubica hails strategy call

14 September 2008 / Results / Photos

Robert Kubica hailed his one-stop, long first stint strategy as the reason he was able to climb from eleventh on the grid to finish the Italian Grand Prix on the podium in third.

"It's been quite a good weekend after qualifying yesterday didn't go the way we wanted," Kubica said. "We were the first car out of Q3, so we just tried to do the right choice on the strategy with that option and I just stayed out as long as possible on the first stint and then switched to intermediate tyres at the right time and made a lot of progress, but it was too late to be able to pass Heikki. It's not easy starting in the middle of the pack in these conditions."

Kubica took his first ever F1 podium at Monza two years ago.
