Surprised Kovalainen settles for second

14 September 2008 / Results / Photos

Heikki Kovalainen looked stunned at the end of the Italian Grand Prix having been beaten to the win by Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel and being unable to challenge the young German at all this afternoon.

"Clearly it wasn't possible to win today as Sebastian and Toro Rosso were strong here all weekend," Kovalainen said. "I had a little problem in the first couple of stints with the exreme wet tyre and struggling to warm up my brakes and struggling to find time and go faster. But we kept pushing and towards the end it got a bit better, but this was the maximum we could do."

"I think the problems we had with tyres was related to the ambient temperature, it was just quite difficult today but was the same for everyone," he added. "It was a bit of a surprise to have that problem with the tyres in the race, because normally it will go away but it didn't."
