Lewis Hamilton was relatively happy after recovering from fifteenth on the grid to finish seventh, and limit the damage to his championship lead to just one point as Felipe Massa struggled to do any better than sixth.
"I needed the rain to fall," Hamilton said of his one-stop strategy that put him back in contention for the race on wet tyres. "I don't think I was very lucky today, but I drove a good race, taking it easy at the start and then turning it up and pulling off some good moves. We had a good strategy and would have been good if it had rained again."
The rain did not come and Hamilton was forced to pit a second time for intermediate tyres.
"We did a good damage limitation from fifteenth to get some valuable points, so I'm happy with that," he added. "Once I got behind Felipe I just had to look after the tyres and make sure of the points. It's definitely a relief that we didn't lose points to anyone else, it would have been a real shame to not score points here and if Felipe had scored more. It was good to get past Kimi and fight through the field, but next race we'll battle back."
