Coulthard: "Vettel's test at RBR good for the team

23 September 2008

Sebastian Vettel completed two days of testing for Red Bull Racing last week at Jerez. The German was invited by the team he will join as a race driver in 2009 to get used to the car and to get to know the team. According to Red Bull Racing driver David Coulthard it was a smart move to have the 21-year-old in the car this early.

Speaking about Vettel's test for Red Bull Racing David Coulthard said in his column for ITV: "Sebastian drove our car at last week's Jerez test because we felt it would be beneficial for him to get to know the team early and for the engineers to get used to his driving style. The other aim was to help crystallise what the differences are between the RB4 chassis and the STR3 that Toro Rosso use, in terms of grip, driveability and so forth.

"It's one thing us surmising about the horsepower difference, and using data to say it's costing us X amount of time; it's another thing if a driver who has just won a grand prix gets out and says 'actually, you're losing time here and there, and here are the reasons why I think that'. So it was a useful exercise for both Sebastian and the team."
