Alonso clearly fastest in final practice session

Renault F1 driver Fernando Alonso completed the fastest lap of the weekend in Saturday's free practice session. The Spaniard was over half a second faster than any other driver racing through the streets of Singapore.

The one-hour free practice session got under way at 19.00 local time as the night fell in Singapore. The Formula 1 drivers were clearly searching for the limits on track as many missed their braking points.

On Friday evening there was still a lot of talking about Turn 10, having kerbs that could be too high. Force India driver Giancarlo Fisichella demonstrated the risk of those kind of kerbs as the Italian got air born by the kerbstones and flying straight into the walls. Fisichella was unharmed fortunately but the front of his car was destroyed.

David Coulthard also faced problems. In the opening minutes of the session the Scotsman slowed down suddenly and seemed to have an hydraulic problem. He managed to roll back to the pitlane but had to wait for most of the session before he could go out again to finish the job in Singapore.

The qualifying session will start at 10.00 pm this evening (local time) in Singapore with Lewis Hamilton, Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso being the favourites for pole position.
