Toyota driver Timo Glock completed Friday's fastest lap at the Fuji Speedway. The German topped the time sheets for most of the session. He ended only just ahead of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. Felipe Massa and his team mate Kimi Raikkonen ended fourth and fifth.
As the second free practice session got under way pretty much every driver hit the track to start getting the cars ready for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix. As in every Grand Prix weekend Friday's second free practice session was all about completing long runs for the drivers on the hard Bridgestone compound. It wasn't until the very end of the session that the F1 drivers completed their laps on the soft tyres.
At the start of the session Lewis Hamilton topped the time sheets but there were a few surprised faces when Force India F1 driver Adrian Sutil topped the time sheets for a while. The German, who competed in Japanese F3 back in 2006, clearly showed he feels at home at the Fuji Speedway.
The lap times were extremely close in Friday's afternoon session. The top 17 ended less than a second behind the fastest man on track: Timo Glock. There weren't any incidents in the session.
