Blair in F1 spotlight again over Ecclestone donation
14 October 2008Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is back in the spotlight over the contentious donation made by, and subsequently returned to Bernie Ecclestone in 1997 amid talks to exclude F1 from a tobacco advertising ban in the UK.
Blair may be called to face an enquiry over claims he lied to MPs about the scandal. Secret documents made public in the past week have suggested there was more going on behind the scenes when the scandal broke than was admitted.
Beyond bothering Blair, the move is unlikely to have further impact on F1, given that tobacco sponsorship has now been removed from the sport.
